I want to re-create (and sell) an old game. Although this game is under GNU Public License, I didn’t see or use any parts of the code, I just took the idea and written the new game. BUT I would like to take some images and sound effects from the old game and use it. Can I just do it?

Can I use a software licensed under GPL or LGPL to produce a close sourced software that uses no libraries of that software? That is I’ll be using the software only for compilation purposes and license according to my terms.
