Insights from Citrix: Software Licensing Implications of Virtualization and the Cloud
The Cloud is Here: Are Software Vendors and Intelligent Device Manufacturers Prepared?
By John Lipsey Cloud-based computing has transformed the way people think about purchasing and consuming business software. Like ala carte dining rather than all you can eat, the Cloud has opened up entirely new revenue streams for providers to enable value based on new delivery models such as burst-of-use and pay-per-use, to name a couple. There are many software licensing implications tied to Cloud computing. And they all assume that application producers can track their customers' software usage and enforce it according to the relevant licensing arrangement. But can they? According to our 2011 Key Trends in Software Pricing & Licensing Survey , software vendors and intelligent device manufacturers have a ways to go. According to the survey, 47% of application producers say they either do not have technology in place that enables them to know what product, product version or platforms their customers are using – or they simply do not know.
Reflections on SoftSummit 2011 Software Licensing Conference
By Ann Reist As I reflect back on SoftSummit 2011, the conference dedicated to addressing software licensing and entitlement management topics and trends, one of the highlights of the conference for me was the keynote address from Chris Gahagan, SVP of Products & Solutions for Avid. Chris shared his journey of creating “One Avid.” His story, not unlike most software vendors and intelligent device manufacturers that serve multiple market segments, began with the idea of the value that unified licensing could bring to his organization.
Can anyone tell me the arguments FOR and AGAINST the licensing of software engineers.?
If I want to sell my used CD’s and software are there royalty or licensing issues I should be aware of?
I’m thinking that since I’ve purchased the music/software, I’ve met any obligation to pay royalties. Thanks, Marc
On Ebay, what does “SOFTWARE INCLUDES ORIGINAL LICENSING MATERIALS”?
Hello, I am trying to purchase a new laptop off ebay. I saw a decent offer (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=300181961384&_trksid=p3984.cWAT.m240.lVI). The thing I want to purchase with the laptop is software, such as adobe photoshop and final cut pro. The seller of the link above states that “Software includes original licensing materials”. What does that mean? I have tried to contact the buyer but he has not replied. Does original licensing mean that the laptop comes with the programs CDs? Or does it mean something else? I hope it means that it comes with the programs CDs, but tell what it means! Thanks

software Licensing (open but closed source)?!?
I have a large project I’ve been working on for alittle over 4 years now on and off, related to 3d animations; code is based upon opensource (not gpl/lpgl — fully open) – so I could sell it commercial if I wanted – but I don’t. I would much rather provide it as open source code, so that the community can develop upon it, as I wish to retire from it. At the same time, I need to feed my family… Is it possible to license that some way? Maybe a DLL separate from the actual open source code, that operates(drives) the whole system/architecture? Sell the DLL for like
What should we call this type of software licensing?
I know it’s long but I can not fit it all in here: http://techfettish.wordpress.com What should we call this type of licensing? In short: you can only install 4 times, even if all four installs are done on the SAME COMPUTER! After that you have to pay. If you do take the time to read my blog you’ll find a description about someone who was asked to pay because she did format 4 times when switching from xp to vista, then back to xp, and then had hardware problems. So what should we call this type of licensing? So far I have “stupidware” and “chumpware.” The mainstream media will need a term to use when they are finally able to explain what it is themselves so let’s get one to them before other companies start doing this BS!
I have a store with 200 computers. What would be the cost of software and licensing for Microsoft Office?
For Office, XP and Outlook? try again? School assignment. Random guess and numbers would work great.
Question about software licensing?
Is it possible to get adobe Photoshop, other Adobe Applications and Quickbooks as OEM versions? If so, what happens if I register it and it says invalid key? (doesnt have to be OEM, can be retail versions too) asking for a friend! because my friends sees some online like for cheap with boxes and stuff
